Originally conceived as a short horror film, Cross Stitch later developed into an abstract dance piece. Heavily informed by the stop motion tradition of Jan Svankmajer and the Quay Brothers, it constantly shifts between extreme surrealism and symbolism. This dualism is also present in the fragmented narrative, which can only be followed using the imagination.
Roughly based on identity and communication between human beings, the two main characters constantly merge into one another through a heavy exchange of matter, represented here by the red wool. Colour and Texture play an important part in this short film, creating an augmented reality closely examined.
