Office-R(6) describe themselves as an electro acoustic unit playing structured sound improvisations. Although based in Amsterdam, the band has members from Norway, Turkey, the Netherlands and the US, all of which are experienced and well respected musicians.

The catalogue which they play from consists, at this moment, of five different structures which they combine and negate in live situations. Part of the approach is to get away from the standard free improvisation-type-playing with its slow build ups to the inevitable climax and try to get understanding and concentration from every player so change can occur and material can be abandoned, collectively, at any moment. The choice of material depends a lot on this and is therefore fairly abstract and sound-based and usually without clear tonal or rhythmical grid. Also on a micro level there is a lot of collective phrase building ranging from pointillist to dense textural playing.
